Four Composition Types
In this task I was required to make collages of the 4 composition types and then photograph them and try find things around the school that resembled the 4 composition types.
The four types of composition are triangle, rule of thirds, layers and balance.
First attempt- at school
WWW: Good focus and iso. Captured good triangle and balance photos
EBI: capture more of the other two compositions and different settings

Second attempt- at home
WWW: captured some good photos of triangle and balance composition and good focus/use of lighting.
EBI: need to get better rule of thirds and layering composition as i found them hard to capture.

I particularly like these photos as they show triangle composition AND ute Barth who I worked on a few weeks ago as well

Framing
Using mirrors
in this task we used Sebastian Magnani photos of nature captured in a mirrors reflection as inspiration. I was required to place my mirror in several locations and capture still images of the background in focus and the reflection in the mirror. Sebastian Magnani said that he 'captures the beauty of nature in mirror reflections', and I completely agree and thats why I enjoyed this task especially.

WWW: I captured good reflection images and pretty good focus in the images. I enjoyed taking these photos as I like how I was taking a photo of the plain ground but came out as so much more when the mirror was added showing the reflection of the sky or other nature.
EBI: I found it difficult to find the perfect ISO so some images came out very bright. So next time I would mess around and try out different ISOs to find the perfect one.

Framing without mirrors
WWW: some good depth of fields and iso is correct
EBI: I got better landscapes in the inside of the frame and held better focus

Finger frames
In this task I was required to get one of my friends to create a frame with their fingers, and then find the correct iso and use good depth of field and focus ONLY on the scene inside their finger frame. I was advised to use shallow depth of field which is achieved by shooting photos with a low f-number or f-stop, this puts your plane of focus between a few inches and a few feet Depending on your subject and area of focus point, you can blur the foreground or background of your image.

WWW: As you can see in the photos above I was able to capture 3 different depth of fields.
EBI: it was difficult to get the model to stay still and in the right angles.

I found it difficult to get my friend to stay still during the photos so that there was good focus. In order to adapt to the task I used a tripod so that the photos wouldn't be wonky or different, after I found the best composition I didn't have as much issues with the task the main thing I had to do was just do trial and error with the composition to get the best outcome.
Formal Elements
In this task I was required to focus on formal elements, we were guided to photograph; form, tone, colour, texture, pattern, line and contrast. The Formal Elements are the parts used to make a piece of artwork. The art elements are line, shape, form, tone, texture, pattern, colour and composition. They are often used together, and how they are organised in a piece of art determines what the finished piece will look like.

WWW: Took good photos for colour and texture and line, also did good editing to make the images look more pretty.
EBI: need to not re use photos in different categories of elements, so take more photos that match the composition

Workshop 1: Mirroring
I enjoyed this technique as I took an ordinary photo of a flower and reflected it to look really beautiful and mysterious. I think I was pretty successful making a mirrored image and would love to make more.
Workshop 2: Double exposure
In order to create this photo I merged this photo
With this photo
On photoshop and transformed the sunset onto the girl and changed the overlay to 90% to create a realistic effect.
Independent development
Chosen Photographers: Clyde Butcher, Guy Tal, Elliot Porter
My Favourite photographer from the three is Amanda Kleinman
First development
I've chosen to photograph Kleinman's style of photos because I love the saturation and vibrance of her nature photography, in this task I've been required to choose my favourite photographer out've the three above. I must take at least 20 photos in annas style, so therefore ive taken many photos of flowers and tried to get a good depth of field.

WWW: i like the depth of field i captured and i really enjoyed taking these photos, i also like the fact I managed the exposure very well, next time i would like to go to a flower nursery or a garden centre so i have more flowers to photograph.
EBI: I should experiment further with composition and shutter speed, i also found it difficult to find the right iso so i would experiment further with that. I will also find more interesting flowers to photograph.

Second development
I wanted to do a retake of my photos to see if I could get better photos. I also edited some of them to look like Guy Tals photos and look strange and out of the ordinary. I only took a couple of photos as I am planning to go to a garden centre for my development 3 and take many more photos.

I like this image because it looks vibrant and like Guy Tal's images which I really like his style, I like this development because I took Amanda Kleinmen's style of photos and mixed them with Guy Tal's editing techniques.

I really like this edit, its definitely my favourite one so far, because it looks unreal with the exposure and contrast. The flower looks toxic but is clearly in full flower. This is something I would like to develop further.
|
With this edit, I altered the colour, cancelling out all the red so it created an electric blue flower and background which I love, its also very saturated.

I am interested in my work presenting a bigger issue about the environment- I will explore this in my next set.
Third development
In this task i was required to carry on my independent development on Amanda Kleinman. I visited a garden centre during my summer holiday and captured dozens of photos of flowers. Trying my best to use a shallow depth of field.
My photographs make clear links to Amanda Kleinmans work, which is why my images express my intentions. So i’m happy they closely resemble her photos. The shallow depth of field draws attention to the actual flower.

In the images above I have edited the colours, making them appear toxic and unreal. I wanted to suggest how pollution is damaging the natural world.
Fourth Development
For my final development I printed out my previous edits from before and used different chemicals on them - ruining the images but finding interest in damage. I used bleach, nail varnish remover, hairspray and paint. I explored the different chemicals to see what would look best. Bleach was the most successful. This also fitted with my idea of the impact of man and pollution on the natural world. It seemed quite fitting that the bleach removed and damaged the image most, just like humans do to the planet. In a day and age where fruit and vegetables are sprayed with toxic chemicals before we can eat them, food is mass produced on a scale destroying the ozone and icebergs are melting, humans erasure of nature will only end in nature becoming more angry and taking control again. The transparency of the bleach indicates that this is only a temporary phases against the high contrast bursts of colour like Mother Nature taking charge again.
Images damaged using bleach.
These 2 photos have been painted with glass paints.
Final pieces
I chose the bleached photos as the final pieces as I felt these showed my ideas the best.
My intentions for my final piece were to show how quickly humans are destroying the beautiful nature we live in. The aggressive strokes and mark makings in the bleach against the soft, delicate hues of the flowers behind show how quickly humans impact the planet without much consideration. I also enjoyed how the bleach not only erases the image but leaves parts stained and dirty, seeing the image below, just like seeing an old fragmented victorian film camera photo, broken down and stuck in the past. I wanted to communicate that if we as humans do not proactively change, then nature might too be a thing of the past.
